Introducing the

first 100 flavors

Why Your Child’s First 100 Flavors Matter

Global flavors, delivered Whole ingredients that go into Tiny meals

There is evidence that early exposure to flavors and textures will make your child a less picky eater. So, why do flavors and textures matter? Children have a natural preference for sweet and smooth foods that are easy to eat. However, most foods - and most foods that are good for us - don’t fall into this simple, “sweet and smooth” category. Most children have an aversion to bitter tastes (more commonly found in the ultra-healthy stuff, ie. green vegetables). The good news is that by familiarizing little ones to more complex foods, flavors and textures early on, they are more likely to eat a wider variety of foods later.

At Tiny Organics, our goal is to introduce your child to their first 100 flavors to build lifelong adventurous eaters and to reduce picky eating. We have developed meals that will introduce your little one to a variety of diverse flavors and textures from around the world and make mealtime fun and successful in both the short and long-term.

There are studies that indicate the more vegetable variety a child is exposed to, the more willing they are to try and accept a new vegetable. Takeaway: The earlier you can expose your child to new flavors and different fruits and vegetables, the more likely they are to eat those vegetables later in life.

Did you know… Only 10% of children in the U.S. get the daily recommended amount of vegetables and the majority of that is through french fries.

Bottom Line: The earlier and the more textures and flavors you can expose your child to in their first year, the less likely they are to develop a fear or aversion to new flavors and textures later in childhood.

Our mission

Our mission at Tiny is to raise a generation of adventurous eaters who love vegetables from their very first bites in order to grow up into the healthiest version of themselves.

We've built Tiny with our 100 Founding Families from day one in collaboration with Tufts School of Nutrition & Policy. We are honored to have the Dean Dariush Mozaffarian on our scientific board as we build a programmatic approach to childhood development through the healthiest, organic first foods.

Through Veggies Early and Often, Partnership for a Healthier America is convening industry leaders including Tiny Organics, health professionals, and early education partners to consolidate evidence and outline an action agenda to help improve the food landscape for the nation’s youngest eaters through a veggie-forward approach.

"There is no better time in a child’s life to make nutrition a top priority than during infancy and toddlerhood: when their bodies and their brains are growing faster than ever."

Priscilla Barr, MS, RDN, Neonatal Nutritionist, NYU Langone & Tiny's Nutritional Advisor

"Tiny Organics is a member of our Food and Nutrition Innovation Council at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, and I’m proud to personally serve as Tiny's scientific advisor."

Dariush Mozaffarian, MD, DrPH, Professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy & Tiny's Scientific Advisor

"Shaping the palates of our youngest eaters is more important than ever. We are encouraged and invigorated to partner with Tiny Organics in this important work, which will continue enabling us to cultivate healthier environments for America's next generation and end the childhood obesity crisis."

How to Get Enough Iron in Your Baby's Diet

Did you know that iron deficiency is the most common micronutrient deficiency in children? Iron is essential for the production of red blood cells and for the transportation of oxygen in the body and an iron deficiency in early childhood can result in development delays. But there’s good news! By serving your child iron-rich foods daily and being mindful about how to combine meals to maximize iron absorption, a deficiency can be easily prevented!

One thing to note: Iron from plants is not as readily absorbed as iron from animal sources. It’s therefore recommended that children raised on plant-based diets (vegetarian or vegan diets, for example), should consume up to 1.8 times more iron than the recommended daily allowance. For reference, the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of iron is 11 mg between the ages 6-12 months, and 7 mg between the ages of 1 – 3 years.

Here’s an idea of how much iron different foods contain:

  • Chia seeds (1 tbsp): 1.6 mg
  • Spinach cooked (¼ cup): 1.6 mg
  • Lentils boiled (¼ cup): 1.4 mg
  • Tofu extra firm steamed (2 oz): 1.2 mg
  • Chickpeas boiled (¼ cup): 1.2 mg
  • Almond butter (1 tbsp): 1.0 mg
  • Black beans cooked (¼ cup): 0.9 mg
  • Hemp seeds (1 tbsp): 0.8 mg
  • Quinoa cooked (¼ cup): 0.7 mg
  • Sweet potato baked (¼ cup): 0.4 mg
  • Broccoli cooked (¼ cup): 0.3 mg
  • Brown rice cooked (¼ cup): 0.3 mg
  • Dried apricots (2 halves): 0.2 mg

To maximize your child’s ability to absorb iron from plants it’s good to always serve something rich in vitamin C to the meal. If your child’s meal doesn’t contain any vitamin C-rich veggies (think broccoli, cauliflower, bell pepper or tomato), try serving a few berries or a little bit of fresh fruit as a dessert, for instance, a few pieces of mango, melon or kiwi.

Here are a few meal ideas to get iron and vitamin C into your baby’s diet:

  • steamed tofu, quinoa and well-cooked broccoli
  • well-cooked soft beans or chickpeas and sweet potato
  • lentil stew/curry with brown rice and steamed spinach
  • bean or lentil patties with avocado and boiled carrots
  • pancakes on buckwheat, with strawberries and almond butter
  • pasta with lentil Bolognese and some mango on the side
  • smoothies with mango or berries and chia and hemp seeds
  • soft toasted bread with sunflower seed butter and kiwi on the side

  • We regularly perform lab tests by an independent third party to ensure food safety and quality.
  • Our meals are cooked daily in small batches, no heavy machinery or extra processing.

Tiny Organics is committed to not using additives in their foods. Since our meals use whole foods and are not processed, no enzyme additives are utilized. Tiny also is committed to picking nutrient dense ingredients that are naturally full of vitamins and minerals, so additional vitamins and minerals additives aren’t added either.

At Tiny Organics, finished products are tested on a regular basis to ensure the safety of our products and doesn't rely on the testing of individual ingredients.

Why no added sugar or salt

When starting your baby out on solid food, it can be an exciting adventure and you may want to jazz it up. However, it's important to not add sugar or salt to your little one's meals while they are exploring food for the first time and shaping their taste preferences for the future! Now while you can’t add salt or sugar to foods, you can definitely add various spices to food! Avoid any added salt or sugar until after 2 years of age. Instead, experiment with other spices to encourage lifelong adventurous eating!

Our Story

Sofia & Carolyn, Co-Founders

We are building from a deep belief that we can shape the palates of generations to love vegetables, plant-based flavors and nutrient-rich foods from the very start.

Our goal is to help every parent feed their baby and toddler the healthiest food. As a new mom, Betsy's main concern has been feeding her baby since the day he entered our world. Sofia was born in the Finnish baby box and has been deep in researching the history of baby food. Together they realized that there weren’t healthy, flavorful, textured food options for little ones who are ready to start solids and so...Tiny Organics was born! As a busy parent, it’s made all the difference in helping Betsy introduce her baby Sebi (now 15 months) to flavors and textures that felt too daunting for her to prepare on her own.

Tiny helps your little one form a lifelong positive relationship with food, cultivate healthy eating patterns, and create a willingness to try new things. We are so happy to share this journey with you and your little one! 💚

First Foods For Your Baby

Scientific research shows that both adults and children benefit from eating real food - whole, unprocessed, nutrient-dense food that comes from the ground, a plant, or an animal. We recommend starting with more savory soft foods like avocado or sweet potato before moving on to juicy fruits so that your baby doesn’t develop a sweet tooth too quickly.

Babies who are exposed to a variety of flavors in the first year develop a more adventurous palate that extends way past toddlerhood and can have lifelong effects. And don't get discouraged if your child isn't a fan the first time. Sometimes a different preparation or simply another (and then another) try is all that's needed to develop a taste.

Baby eating in a high chair

Popular first foods for babies include:

  • Ripe avocado. Cut it into sticks and lightly coat in oat flour for easier handling.
  • Cooked sweet potato. Steam or roast sweet potato until very soft. Be sure to serve without the skin, which can be a choking hazard.
  • Banana. Peel it halfway and allow your baby to hold the bottom like a handle and gum the peeled banana half. Babies LOVE this!
  • Steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Break broccoli into large pieces: the florets are easier to gum. Many little ones can’t get enough “trees” (of the green and white variety)!
  • Cooked carrots. Peel, steam, and cut into long, thick strips.
  • Egg. Eggs are so versatile and full of protein. Hard-boil and halve them or cook into a flat “omelet.”

“The way you teach a child to eat well is through example, enthusiasm, and patient exposure to good food.”

Refer a friend pop-up from Tiny Organics
How do I heat and serve the meals to my baby and toddler?
Microwave: Remove lid from cup and place unlidded cup in the microwave. Cook in 30 second increments until heated through. Carefully mix and test temperature. Cool to desired temperature before serving.
Stovetop: Heat saucepan over medium heat. Empty food from cup into saucepan. We recommend adding 2 tablespoons of water (or another liquid of your choice) along to the saucepan to reach a better consistency. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until heated through, stirring frequently. Carefully mix and test temperature. Cool to desired temperature before serving.
How does Tiny Organics work?
Our food is 100% organic, plant-based and peanut free. We have carefully crafted these meals to suit your baby’s and toddler’s developmental milestones. Over 70% of our meals are savory-forward!
How do I read the best by date on the bottom of my Tiny cup?
The date format of our best by date is MMDDYYX, with X being an internal batch number.
How long do the meals stay fresh?
After you receive your Tiny meals, make sure to pop them in the freezer soon after they arrive! Meals can be stored in the freezer until the expiration date printed on the bottom of each container. If thawed in the fridge, we recommend consuming Tiny within 3 days.
Are the containers microwave safe?
Absolutely!
Can I recycle the box/packaging materials?
Yes! Our outer box is fully recyclable and our green insulation is biodegradable, just open the plastic shell and run the green foam under water in the sink!
What if my little one doesn’t like a certain meal?
It can be difficult to get your little one to try something new. It can often take 10-20+ times of exposing your child to a new food before they eat it. A positive method to introduce a new food into your little one's diet is to present them with 2-3 foods that you know they will eat and a smaller helping of a new food you would like them to try.
Even if your little one doesn’t eat a new food, it’s important for them to see, smell, and touch it. Remember: Exposure doesn’t equal eating.
How do I add or subtract cups from my subscription?
We require a minimum of 12 cups in each order but you can add up to 24 cups (or any amount in between) directly in your account.
How do I change my order frequency?
You can change your order frequency to 1, 2, or 4 week intervals by logging into your account and navigating to the Manage your Subscription section of your Subscriptions tab and selecting Edit frequency.
Can I skip an order?
You can skip your next order any time prior to said order date by logging into your account and navigating to the Manage your Subscription section of your Subscription tab and selecting Skip next order.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Absolutely - there are no commitments! If you’d like to skip your next order or make changes to your plan, you can do so within the Subscriptions tab of your Tiny account.
Are your meals allergen-free?
All of our meals are peanut free and do not contain milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, or soybean. We do include coconut and wheat in some of our recipes. All ingredients are labeled on each container. Please note that while we may not use ingredients that contain allergens, we do manufacture in a facility that also processes allergens.
Do your meals have added sugar or salt?
Our meals don't have any added sugar or salt. The only source of sugar in our foods comes from sugar naturally occurring in whole fruits/veggies or grains. Our food is flavored with natural spices and herbs and over 70% of our meals are savory-forward!
